MEANDER BRIDGE.
ARCH 113 + ARCH 173 │ IN COLLABORATION WITH MARKO RISTOVSKI
Sandwiched between a highway and a major road, secondary students in this Québec neighbourhood must take a lengthy detour around the St. Charles River to walk to school, constantly exposed to the dangers of nearby automotive traffic. The Meander Bridge provides a dedicated pedestrian shortcut between the local neighbourhood and La Camaradière Secondary School alongside its adjacent skateboarding park, reducing the barriers to pursuing a physically active lifestyle. Concurrently, the meandering path serves as integrated traffic calming to improve pedestrian safety on the shared path. With a 1:20 incline, periodic landings, and embedded seating, individuals of all abilities are encouraged to appreciate the views throughout the trees and overlooking the water, which would be otherwise inaccessible due to the steep surrounding terrain.
